Myntra Fashion Weekend
Day 1 of the first Myntra Fashion Weekend, which is being held at
Palladium Hotel in Mumbai, ended on a highly confident and sexy note as
designers, especially the last two, amped up the show. Mumbai-based
designer Pria Kataaria Puri, who is famous for her kaftans and sexy
resort wear, brought to the ramp a vibrant, abstract and energetic
collection.
Her show started off in vivid
orange-toned ensembles worn by five bloggers-Malini Agarwal aka
MissMalini, Rhea Gupte, Aanam Chasmawala, Scherezade Shroff and Karishma
Rajani. Carrying on the show, models sauntered down cheerfully. This
amiable presentation was a pleasant break from the usual frigid style,
and kept the audience smiling as well. The boho luxe collection included
jersey dresses, kaftans, oneshoulder shirts, crop tops and midi skirts
in colourful carpet prints.
Delhi-boy
Raakesh Agarvwal, meanwhile, brought back his 'Seduce Not Control'
collection to the runway for A/W 2014, which he showcased earlier this
year in the Capital. Bondage, leather and bling were the keywords at the
show that added a high-octane punch of glamour in black, gold and nude.
Special hair nets and smeared red lipstick styled by Adhuna Akhtar and
her B:BLUNT team added an interesting feel to the models' look. Despite
the comparatively low turnout owing to Dussehra celebrations, the show
was high on energy.
The
second day began on a highly quirky note, with celebrity stylist Ami
Patel curating a playful, American vintage collection comprising two
trends-indigo and clashing prints. Cigarette pants, front-tied shirts,
wrap around dresses and shift dresses for women; and striped T-shirts,
checked collar shirts and sweatshirts for men made the show.
Actress
Kalki Koechlin walked the ramp as a pretty pin-up girl in a halter
neck, cream-coloured swing dress with lace border. A big orange bow over
a faux bob, strappy floral heels and a big purple envelope bag added
charm to Kalki's look. Adding to the cute look, the good sport did a
small jig on stage with funny man Cyrus Broacha who got all the laughs
for sporting a fake moustache and flowers in his hair while dressed in a
superhero tee and a lungi casually wrapped around his jeans paired with
red sneakers.
Kalki even
teased Broacha by trying to pull his lungi off, leaving the audience in a
spirited mood. Meanwhile, Bringing work essentials to the afternoon,
AND by Anita Dongre presented chic pencil dresses, trousers and shirts
with interesting cuts and collars primarily in black, grey and white.

Sexy Celebrity Sari Blouses
The sari is no doubt the most elegant and beautiful piece of cloth. It can be worn for different occasions, in different ways to give you a different look each time. But, without a good choli, a sari is nothing. From backless to plunging necklines and fancy sleeves, the right choli can instantly add pizzazz to your traditional look. Take a look.
Deepika Padukone: Fashion designer Aniket Satam says, “A plunging neckline suits only those with a perfect neck. Very deep necklines tend to look vulgar.” He adds, “If you have a fuller bust, team your v-necked choli with a semi-transparent pallu for modesty.” We think Deepika has got it perfectly right.

Sonam Kapoor: Star style file
The best looks of Sonam Kapoor, who will be seen next in 'Khoobsurat'
Bollywood's in-house style icon, Sonam Kapoor, is a fashion maven - experimental, classy, delightful and unpredictable. She has an unmatched knack for dressing up and has been making her mark both on the national and international fashion circuit.
“My style isn't about trends. I don't let the clothes wear me, I wear them," says the leggy lass.
Despite being a fashionista, Sonam feels attitude is the best accessory one can wear and that it's futile to be too conscious about one’s appearance all the time.
"Dress up or dress down, the one thing that you will always have is your attitude. Hold your head up high and stride into the party venue like a fashionista!," she said in an interview with Mid Day.

Best Looks of Priyanka Chopra
From the fun-loving Jiya of 'Andaaz' to the adorable Jhilmil of
'Barfi!', Priyanka Chopra has not only proved her mettle as an actor,
but has also outshined her peers when it came to fashion.
The 'Fashion' star is probably one of the few actresses who believe that repeating an outfit is cool. She, along with her stylist Ami Patel, started the #itscooltorepeat campaign on Twitter.
In one of her recent interviews with TOI, she said, "One never attempts to look hot, but one is happy to look it. Over the years, I have experimented with my looks, makeup and outfits. I've done everything to enhance my screen personality through trial and error. And it is not a solo effort. My stylist, hairdresser and the entire team has worked towards getting me where I am. Or how I look."

ICW 2014: Bollywood stars outshine design aesthetics
Design aesthetics and creativity may have impressed fashion patrons at
the just concluded Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers India Couture Week 2014
certainly, but it was Bollywood celebrities who hogged maximum
publicity.
However, designers are not complaining as they admit stars help in getting mileage for both - fashion maestros and sponsors.
From established actresses like Rani Mukerji, Bipasha Basu and Kangana Ranaut to newcomers Alia Bhatt and Huma Qureshi - the big screen divas not only scorched the ramp, they even became the centre of attraction while sitting in the front row at the six-day gala, which kicked off with Sabyasachi Mukherjee's show July 15.
Known for his Indian wear, Mukherjee unfolded his regal collection Ferozabad and mesmerised everyone, but his designs couldn't diminished the Rani's star power, who was in the front row to support him.
On the second day, film stars remained the centre of attraction with Bollywood's current flavour Nimrat Kaur and all time favourite Malaika Arora Khan walking the ramp for Rina Dhaka.
Even 'Queen' fame Kangana Ranaut strutted down the ramp as showstopper for Anju Modi, who presented an amalgamation of ethnic Indian collection “Manikarnika”, while model-turned-actress Lisa Haydon flaunted contemporary bridal lehenga by Monisha Jaisingh on day three.
On the fourth day 'Aashiqui 2' fame actress Shradha Kapoor too sashayed in Gaurav Gupta's garment as his showstopper.
Dhaka says that the time has changed and so has the equation between designers and film stars.
When asked why designers invite Bollywood faces, Dhaka said: "It's not so much about our love for movie stars, it's about driven situation. Yes, the movie stars help sell the garments too.”
In the early days, we never had this kind of issue because models were stars and they still are.
“But in the past two decades, Indian fashion has given so much stars to Bollywood that there is no problem in calling them to walk for us," Dhaka told IANS.
Having said that, amidst dazzling Bollywood presence, Anju Modi's collection, an exploration of the age-old craft and ancient techniques, and Manish Malhotra's 'Portraits', an amalgamation of vintage embroidery on contemporary silhouttes, wowed the gathering.
For Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur upped the glamour quotient.
Designer duo Rimple and Harpreet Narula, who roped in 'Gangs of Wasseypur' star Huma as their showstopper, says it's important that a muse is in sync with the design aesthetics.
“It is essential that the showstopper is relevant to the brand's philosophy and in sync with the designer's aesthetic," Rimple told IANS.
Harpreet said: “Having a muse walk as the showstopper for the show brings together the entire synergy behind the collection-the concept, the garments and the designer's vision. A muse can be from any walk of life and not just Bollywood.”
For the finale, heavy weights like Bipasha and Chitrangada Singh walked the ramp and singer Kamaal Khan's performances on tracks like "Afrin", "Ishq Sufiana" and "Mein tenu samjhawan" was like a cherry on the cake.
Couture Week, by definition isn't a business platform, as the clothes shown are only meant for personal ordering, thus making star presence valid.
Designer Varun Bahl may have not gone with the flow and stayed away from film stars, but he too admits the that big names help in getting right coverage.
"A magazine feature with exclusive backstage interview with a Bollywood celebrity is more likely to be read than one without it, which shows that the ultimate consumer is also enthralled by Bollywood star," Bahl told IANS.
"Because of Bollywood's far-reaching influence, designers have often used film stars to endorse their clothes. Therefore, an event like couture week in my opinion, gains from the presence of Bollywood stars."

Adorned in exquisite hand-crafted jewellery, 'Jism 2' actress Sunny Leone stole the show as she sashayed down the ramp wearing a Hasli with Victorian elements and gold claws, which added a tribal touch to her look.
“For the first time, I am going to experiment with my look completely and turn into a royal tribal queen, which will be a paradigm shift from my image. It’s going to make me feel inherently royal and rustic,” she said before the show.

Alia Bhatt:
You’ve got to hand it to Alia Bhatt, who made a remarkable debut with ‘Student of the Year’. At 21, she’s got all the poise and attitude of a true Bollywood diva and makes it all seem so effortless, too.
The daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan may have had a tailor-made launch pad and a smooth ride to early fame, but she’s taken to the role of newbie hottie and plays it to perfection, without a trace of gawkiness.
Alia is quite the fashionista, sporting everything from Dior gowns to skimpy skirts with utter comfort. She’s unafraid to act her age – whether it’s wearing funky accessories, downplaying her make-up or going with messy hair.
“Being a youngster basically means don’t limit yourself to a particular colour or range. Just go all out,” she said in a recent interview.

Hottest summer styles
Alia Bhatt
Alia’s rainbow-coloured dress by Henry Holland for Koovs is yet to hit the stores, but will, soon. It spells summer all the way with its vibrant hues and perky print. It’s a good idea to wear it with multi-colour sandals as the young fashionista has done. Keep other accessories minimal since there’s plenty going on with the dress.

Teen Fashion Trends That We Can Wear As Adults For Summer 2014
A few years back, it seemed like there was nothing as horrible as mid-2000s fashion. The stores we shopped and worked at as teens were considered dated, were arguably out of touch, and they instilled a sense of fear familiar only to those who’ve had to work split shifts in a fitting room crammed with bratty tweens. But now, it’s a different story.
First, we’re removed enough from our former realities that we can now look objectively at teen fashion trends again. Second, thanks to street style, fashion blogs, and the fact that it’s not 2004 anymore, the stores of our youths aren’t reserved solely for the varsity crowd. (Unless we’re talking about Abercrombie.) Which is perfect, considering “teen” films like "The Fault in Our Stars", which opens June 6, will undoubtedly make us pine for the seemingly effortless style of anybody younger than we are. That’s why we’ve rounded up 10 teen fashion trends we can adopt as adults, or more specifically, resurrect from our past lives. Here’s looking at you, overalls.
1. Crop Tops
Considering the 2000s’ affinity for super low rise pants (guess what is not on this list), arguably most shirts were crop tops in some capacity for about ten years. But now, the real-deal ‘90s/early aughts look is back: whether at chains like Forever 21 or on the runway via Balenciaga, crop tops are for everybody again. So if you can read this, Marissa Cooper, you were right to wear 99 per cent of what you did.
2. Logo Tops
Let’s be honest: nothing meant more to most of us than wearing any piece of clothing slathered in logos. (See: the great Roxy takeover of 2001-2005.) And while there’s always the option of picking up a classic Gap hoodie (a staple of our closets), you can also go for the “designer” option of a typography-adorned top by Alexander Wang or Missoni. (Although bonus points are in order if you can find a mint-condition Billabong t-shirt from 2003.)
3. Capris
We never saw this coming (or maybe we just didn’t want to). Despite summer’s cruel ability to make us want to wear pants less, capris still seemed so dated. They’re what we wore in high school, for heaven’s sake. But alas, everything kind-of-old really is new again, and this year, everyone from J.Crew to Joe Fresh resurrected the trend, fortunately erasing our memories of those cargo pant styles that laced up at the bottom. Those, for the record, must stay buried in our pasts.
4. Slip-On Sneakers
At some point in our teenage lives, we saved up enough part-time retail job money to buy those quintessential black and white Vans slip-ons. (Or printed – who are we to make assumptions?) And why wouldn’t we? They were comfortable, they were easy to wear, and they went with almost everything – until they disappeared. Well, rest easy: they’ve come back to us. Not only in their original Vans form, but through designers like Prada and Givenchy. Just refrain from re-buying the spike punk belt (maybe).
5. Neon
We relate neon and brights to the ‘80s and ‘90s, but a single viewing of "Veronica Mars" will prove just how resilient neons are. (And lest we forget everything worn by Paris Hilton in "The Simple Life.") That’s why neons are back – again – but a little more formal (courtesy of Ralph Lauren) if you’re into something more professional. And if you’re not? American Eagle’s shift dress is the perfect combination of both ‘90s and ‘00s kitsch.
6. Vests
The Plastics’ rules were real for the day Karen from "Mean Girls" wore a vest, but rest easy: they aren’t all disgusting. DIY and chain-level denim vests are currently abounding (and brands like Diesel are trying their hand at capitalizing on the Americana-biker aesthetic, too), but you can take the trend in a more professional direction à la Rebecca Taylor, whose take on a trend is a far cry from, say, our choice to just cut the sleeves off an old denim jacket.
7. Hoodies
Hoodies are tricky: first, we lived in them for about ten years as students, so they bring back memories of sitting in class, praying for a fire drill (or not – who are we to assume?) Second, they’ve gotten a bad reputation because they technically fall under “loungewear” – until now. While Roots offers an adult alternative to the style (we couldn’t afford Roots as kids), collections like Julien David’s proved you can mix and match hoodies with anything from pants to skirts. Respect forever, though, if you resurrect anything made by Ecko between 2000 and 2002.
8. Track Jackets
If you owned an Adidas track jacket like Missy Elliott’s ten years ago, you were better than us. But now those jackets have been deemed “vintage” (ish), and you can pick up commemorative styles from the brand itself – or, you can go full-on fancy with Jonathan Saunders’ satin jacket (which is lovely despite lacking three distinct stripes).
9. Pleather
You weren’t a teen of the 2000s without wearing pleather, so fortunately we can relive the choices of our past through the spring/summer 2014 leather boom (courtesy of everyone from Saint Laurent to Tom Ford). The brighter, the better – and worn with bright polyester, better still. Just rest easy: pleather still abounds, so if you’re not into wearing animal byproduct, most brands (that we can afford) carry the synthetic alternative.
10. Overalls
Let’s admit it to ourselves and everybody else: the Tommy Hilfiger overalls of 1999-2001 were a gift to us all. And do you know what? We weren’t wrong – clearly – since everyone from DKNY to Chloe included denim overalls in their collections this season. The best part? Since so many people purged their wardrobes once overalls were “out,” chains like Value Village are still chalk full, so if you’re hoping for a pair of naughties’ originals, it’s your time to shine.

Chitrangada Singh up close and personal!
We caught up with the ravishing Chitrangada Singh recently. Click on, for her fashion fundas and top looks
We got up close with the sultry Bollywood actress Chitrangada Singh, who was in Bangalore for Myntra's 'Look Good Fashion Icon' event.
With her unconventional looks, caramel skin, melting eyes and smouldering intensity, sometimes likened to that of Smita Patil, Chitrangada Singh is an incredibly hot woman with substance and innate style.
About her style philosophy, Chitrangada says, “I have always believed that fashion is about being comfortable in your own skin and carrying your attire confidently and with panache. With this simple mantra, you can redefine fashion trends and become a fashion diva in your own right."
"In my opinion, fashion is what’s available and style is what ‘YOU’ choose,” she added.
Here are some excerpts from the interview where she dishes out some style and beauty secrets and talks about her future plans:
Describe your personal style
Style is not about how expensive the clothes you're wearing are or which brands they are. Style I think is innate. Often, we make the mistake of calling someone a style icon by just looking at what they’re wearing and what they can afford.
I think style is a lot about personality. That's not something you can buy.
Bollywood stars who you think are stylish?
I think Salman (Khan) in 'Dabangg' was very stylish. The kind of confidence and aggression he has is original.
How important is it to be fashionable?
It’s important to be fashionable in a certain way, but it's more important to wear your own style. And I don't think that should get lost or mixed with being a style icon.
What takes pride of place in your wardrobe?
You will see a lot of jeans, lots of white, black and grey T-shirts.
Any fashion faux pas you’ve made?
My fashion faux pas was that one time I wore a sequined gown with sequined shoes to an award function. That was the worst thing I ever did. It was too blingy for my liking.
The style mantra you follow?
Less is more for me. Like a lot of times I put on a lot of make-up and then take it off immediately. I like to keep the accessory front simple with heavy and embellished dresses. I like to keep everything simple yet stylish.
How much do you depend on professional styling?
It is very important when it comes to getting ready for certain appearances and events. You need a stylist to create a fresh look for you. They are the ones who go out and source everything, making the whole process easier.
Sometimes you're unwilling to change the way you look and they suggest something which pushes you to experiment a bit. That's the good thing that happens with having a stylist and it makes a lot of difference to how you look.
However, from all the options they give, it's you who choose what you want to wear in the end.
Must-haves in your hand bag?
I'll definitely have a kajal. It's instant make-up for me, which really works. I'll have a Chanel face powder and a couple of lip liners. I don't use mascara; it's just the kajal that works best for me.
Favourite brands?
Chanel and SK-II
Your style icon?
Anne Hathaway. She's versatile, girly, and flirty. I admire the boldness of the characters she plays.
Beauty and hair treatments that works for you?
I never do facials, I don't believe in them. Cleansing is good but not facials. I get tired and bored in the spa. Of course when there are breakouts, acne, I run to the doctor.
I have seen that when I have been regular with my workout, my skin has been good and when I haven't been eating and drinking well, it shows on my skin.
Tips for flawless skin like yours?
Hydration! Hydration! Hydration! It is extremely important to drink enough water, stay hydrated, eat well and work out.
Things most people do not know about you?
That I only have white, black and grey T-shirts in my wardrobe.
Fitness secret?
Kick boxing. I work hard at it. Working out has always been in my family. I don't think we ever woke up later than 7 o'clock and that's been a part of my life. And of course the profession we are in, it's very important to stay fit.
Style tip for summer?
I think one should play a lot with colour. All the bright pops look really nice in summer. The same goes for the accessories and bags you carry.
So, when do we see you next on screen?
I’m working on a project that will happen only by next year.

Style Report: Hits & Misses
There was Priyanka Chopra making the teeniest fashion faux pas and Shilpa Shetty playing yummy mommy in style. Click on, to see who made it to the style charts this week and how they fared.
Priyanka Chopra
For the launch of her latest single, Priyanka Chopra settled for a look that could easily have been a winner with the mesh skirt, cropped tee and strappy shoes. Unfortunately, a small detail spoilt it all.
Jacqueline Fernandez
The Sri Lankan beauty queen wore separates, with ankle strap sandals and a Jimmy Choo bag to a launch. The outfit doesn’t quite grab us, but she carried it off quite nicely.
Shilpa Shetty
The bright yellow dress by Versace hugged Shilpa’s curves beautifully. To this Mother’s Day event she wore trendy Aquazurra sandals with the dress.
Kajol
It was Payal Pratap separates for Kajol when she turned up at a Mother’s Day event. She wore a narrow belt to give the silhouette shape, and the black and gold tones suited her nicely. A soft updo and ear cuffs finished off Kajol’s look.
Soha Ali Khan
A one-shouldered blue maxi was Soha’s pick for a Clinic Plus promo. The colour does lots for her and she would have looked perfect if not for the accessories – the stole and shoes are both way off target.
Jacqueline Fernandez
It was separates again for Jacqueline to a Bodyshop promo. This time it was by Drashta and the floral appliqué gave the outfit a lovely summery look. Jacqueline wore ankle-strap sandals with a touch of glitter and looked lovely overall.

Known for her exotic red carpet creations worn by Bollywood stars, Sonaakshi Raaj presented her collection ‘A Broadway Affair’ on day four of the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 here.
It was a collection of skirts teamed up with cropped tops, high waist pants with bustier, gowns, pre-stitched draped saris with corsets, lacy blouses, halter gold bustier in shades of white, beige, light blue and tomato red.
Wearing a stunning corset and moulded draped sari, Prachi turned the showstopper for Sonaakshi.

Fashion at IIFA
Deepika Padukone
Well, her competitor Deepika Padukone wasn't far behind. She looked stunning in Naeem Khan separates, featuring a heavily beaded steel grey cropped top with hints of shimmer and sequin. She paired it with cape jacket attached to the straight black pants. We absolutely love how she didn't play safe (unlike others) and explored the dark side with that oxblood lip colour.
We have seen footballer Victor Cruz's girlfriend Elaina Watley in the same creation... but trust us, DP scores much more!
As a matter of fact, we can't think of even one instance when DP went wrong with her red (or green) carpet appearances, especially when wearing a Naeem Khan creation.
This Moroccan-inspired soft peach gown, from Khan's Spring 2013 collection, blends Deepika's sensuality and sophistication so well that it becomes almost difficult to take our eyes off her. Still we tried and zoomed into the intricacies of the gorgeous gown - we see some incredible work on the embroidery front.
